From My Kitchen

Print Collection

Inspired by natural dye paintings

@ Savannah, GA

This collection of projects is inspired by natural dye colors achieved from foods found within my kitchen: turmeric, purple cabbage, avocado pits and peels, red onion peels, black beans and spinach. This project evolved from playing with dye on cotton Khadi paper, to making placement prints, then to larger wallpaper—like paintings, and finally to a series of repeat patterns for a cafe spa called Chillhouse. This study of natural dye inspired me to keep looking at dye in a different way in order to create varying concepts.

This image shows the process behind the collection of dye projects. Each page of process was done as a daily practice exploring color, texture, and layering. Different paint brushes, sponges, and dipping methods were explored to figure out what worked best and what I would want to continue with  for the following projects.

These placement prints are inspired by natural dye painted motifs. The colors used come from black beans, avocado pits and peels, red cabbage, red onions, turmeric, and spinach. After painting on cotton Khadi paper, the motifs were brought into Photoshop to digitally transform and reconstruct. The digital prints are the initial process work, playing with layering motifs before creating repeat patterns. Intended for paper products, as well as products for the home like journals, calendars, labels, water bottles, etc., they are meant to bring a pop of color to every day objects.

Chillhouse

Print Collection

Inspired by natural dye paintings

@ New York City

The following print collection of patterns evolved from my previous natural dye studies. I wanted to create designs that were able to be mixed and matched within an interior space, on clothing, or on every day accessories. While researching for an interior space where the prints would fit, I found Chillhouse, a fun cafe and spa in New York City. The environment, filled with many lively colors, works perfectly with some added pattern to make the space pop even more. In addition to the interior collection for Chillhouse I also created prints for clothing, every day accessories, and gift cards.
